I grew up here
I spent my first 9 years living remote at the Port Armstrong fish hatchery on Baranof Island. In 1993 my family moved to Juneau where I joined the 5th grade at Auke Bay Elementary. I attended Dzantik'i Heeni (the first year it opened), JDHS, and received my diploma from Alyeska Central Home School in Juneau.
After high school, I spent a few years in the Lower 48 before returning to work at Armstrong in 2008 and moving to Juneau in 2012. After a union apprenticeship I’m now a journeyman electrician with our local IBEW 1547. I commercial fish sea cucumbers, work as salvor, diver, and occasionally as an assistant hunting guide.
In 2017, my better half (Elizabeth) and I bought a fixer-upper on View Drive with an acre of land, intending to improve and expand on it as our forever home. In 2023, the property started flooding and now we get 1-2 feet of glacial flood water in the first floor of our home each fall.
Why I’m running for assembly
Like many of you I’ve had my concerns, critiques and ideas about what happens in Juneau.
As a tradesman in Juneau I’ve worked on a variety of projects ranging from museums and streetlights to harbors and many of your homes. I’ve seen many of the mechanical inner workings of Juneau that are too often misunderstood or taken for granted, especially by decision makers.
I’m running for Juneau Assembly because I think CBJ is on hard times but can do better for residents and our future. Our community faces unique challenges that require fresh thinking and determined action. I offer a technical perspective on the problems Juneau faces today, and the ones ahead.
My years spent working on large infrastructure projects in Juneau will add a skillset that our Assembly currently does not have. Leadership with a diverse knowledge base working for Juneau residents is critical to our unique community and its stability.
Living remote for a portion of my life fostered a combination of self-reliance and working with my neighbors towards the best outcomes, and that has stayed with me.
